John J. Lawler started his career off as cabinetmaker in Ireland from 1976 as a family run business. He learnt all his skills from Jack Lawler (father) and also learnt French polishing at that early age from his mother Francis Lawler. He then established his own business for the first time in Galway city. Later moved to Scotland to expand interest in Antique furniture skills and restoration. He then established partnership in 1983 with his brother James Lawler (Antique restorer) in Camden Town, London.

Business grew so much that Mr John J. Lawler opened a shop and workshop in the famous Colombia Road flower market. Having spent 6 wonderful years there he moved to a larger premises on Hornsey High Street. Established and settled there since 1993 till present. During his time in London he also taught Upholstery and Antique restoration at the Camden Institute, Lauriston Centre in Hackney and Ormand road Craft Centre in Islington.

John J.Lawler from 1998 till present runs upholstery and furniture restoration classes on Saturdays. He has also now opened a showroom in Hornsey High Street.

The showroom has Antique furniture sales, designer fabrics and wallpapers for sale, soft furnishings, made to measure headboard and Interior Design services. The showroom at 57 High Street, Hornsey, London, N8 7QB, has a homely atmosphere allowing clients to sit at their leisure without being rushed, enjoying a cup of tea whilst browsing through pattern books, whilst there make use of John J. Lawler’s expertise and experience.

The Lawler family have a wonderful connection with Antique furniture and Interiors through their parents Jack and Francis Lawler. Bridgette Callen famously known in the East side of Ireland for soft furnishings. Mr Joe Lawler (brother) a cabinetmaker and designer of his own furniture. Gerard Lawler (Scientist) continues cabinet making. The passion for furniture and antique restoration was instilled to all the family from an early age, which allowed them all to be successful in life.
